Prelude: "Studies have shown a shift of victimization now reflects increasingly acrimonious beliefs, and prejudiced perceptions, about and against African Americans - that are arguably stronger today than they were after emancipation.” I am always overwhelmed by the social engineering that is in play during our contemporary and technological age; and believe this now dated statement from 2011; found perusing through my files deserves broader play. It impressed me enough then to save it. I don’t know who wrote it - it is from the defunct online journal and re-designed blogspot.com.
I have circumscribed my grammatical and organizational editing toward maintaining the thrust of the author's thoughts, but I must say I am embarrassed in publishing this updated version - about the quality of the initial publication. It was absurd that it initially went to print - I must have been deliriously depressed or stressed - and owe a sincere apology to any who took time to try to make sense of an obviously incoherent and incomplete piece of work. As I erroneously thought I did before, this editing is buttressed with points of my own, noted in the hard parenthesis. I appreciated the author's analysis, and if this work is recognized, please forward the name of the author so proper credit can be given to a very salient and instructive piece of work. Again...
"The perceptions of black people are being covertly and negatively shaped by white elites to ensure the continuance of dominance and control. It is a very sophisticated [structured] racist system that is much less public and obvious than the overt methods used in the past - yet it is unprecedentedly, more harmful and proficient. [Coupled with the increase of overt methods of racial aggression, since this publishing in 2011, the proponents of white minority rule in America, are powerfully fanning the flames of division across race, gender and class and mass media propaganda is a powerful tool in this regard].
"With the strong prevailing history of slavery in the United States [and its vestiges], racism has always been an issue. This ingrained societal problem has always necessitated America’s white elites to develop and implement systems that defend and maintain positions of dominance. As seen after the abolition of slavery, different forms of segregation were implemented including Jim Crow laws, American political [tax, land granting, economic and educational] structures, that invited extreme segregation within many cities [and agricultural] centers across the nation [and have been longitudinally maintained].
"The past blatant methods used for ensuring the continuance of white dominance, from Reconstruction through the 1960's were becoming socially unacceptable in the industrial age. This required the elites to develop more sophisticated and stealthy methods - designs and public relations better suited for changing times. As overt and obvious racial discrimination became morally unacceptable and illegal - it became necessary to develop more sophisticated, less apparent covert applications."
"Today, [many] Black people [and others] are unknowingly the victims of a very sophisticated covert mass media program. It is far more sophisticated than methods used in the past up until the ‘60’s. It includes both the ability to create a national climate, that is insensitive to the plight of African Americans, and produces psychological feelings among African Americans [and others], that make them more compliant to white dominance and influence. [Social media has provided vast gains in the ability to integrate the collective mass media program and its objectives].
"The U.S. media [and other nation's] historical racial devaluing depictions and distorted portrayals of Black America, have amplified the negative to the point of misrepresenting reality and is a deliberately designed ideological subversion program; [psy-ops] if you will. This program [through collective and repetitive applications] often disseminates false deplorably devaluing statistics and propaganda about the US black population as a means of defending and maintaining America’s minority in positions of white dominance [while perpetually penalizing black people]. Today, what's often deemed as credible news sources, are made up stories pushing an agenda to meet government [and quasi corporate] objectives."
"The present system uses the national media's proven ability to manipulate and socially engineer societ[ies] through the use of mass media propaganda techniques. The constant deplorably negative depictions of African Americans - that subject them to seeing only the fraudulent worst in themselves, are designed to:
corrupt their sense of [cultural] unity and cohesion, mold a character of self-hatred, engender self-doubt, self-loathing and distrust among the group;
[amplify those sentiments in others against black people];
insinuate [success rests in blacks and others] admiring, respecting, and trusting only whites;
drilling the message that blacks are powerless, of lesser moral character and intelligence; [and they always need additional scrutiny, taxing/levying, persecution - in governing the prescribed, limited autonomy of their lives - many times, their own will readily assist this objective].
"Throughout history, cultures that create and maintain empires have done so by manipulating the people they are trying to conquer or control. They go out of their way to make sure the targets are perpetually misled and manipulated. Often, the conquered group’s perception of reality is not their own. It is shrewdly imposed upon them without them even knowing it." [The internalization and influence of Christianity in the African Diaspora is an excellent example of this].
"Fake deplorable news reports about African Americans [and our Diaspora] are being deliberately disseminated - unrelentingly everywhere through news releases, magazine articles, radio, television, press releases, documentaries, [social media] and false census reports perpetuating and framing the myth of white racial, moral, and ethical superiority over the black population. It is time that more African Americans wake up to this reality [and what has become a foundational rubric in public relations across the world].
[This is not an attempt to inflame progressive whites and others; nor is it an attempt to bolster anti-white bigotry, prejudice and bias - that so many blacks blatantly deny. The very sophisticated method of control through the usage of mass psychological manipulation, is the crowning achievement of Dr. Edward Bernays, a mass manipulation/public relations expert, hired by several U.S. presidents, and known as the father of “Spin.”]
[Dr. Bernays was also a prestigious founding member of the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations; an organization that specializes in mass manipulation and brain washing. He said in his book Propaganda, that, "the conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in a democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country ...if we understand the mechanism and motives of the group mind, it is now possible to control and regiment the masses according to our will without them knowing it.”
[The current public relations industry is a direct outgrowth of Bernays' work who beginning in the 1920s, was one of the first and most successful practitioners of the art of public relations. His methods are still used by the United States, other governments and most media houses.] "So again, the unrelenting daily assault on the Black psyche and masses in general, is designed to adversely manipulate and shape the minds and collective consciousness of America’s population. The [goal] is to divide and conquer and it works by affecting the unconscious mind through deception. Furthermore, it totally detaches African Americans [and others] from their sense of power and reality. And it also facilitates a national setting that is insensitive to their plight and that fosters a consensual climate where they are more easily [targeted], mistreated, exploited and ultimately suppressed."
"When most people hear the term psychological manipulation, they usually think in terms of the classic "conspiracy theory" that refers to overt mind control such as mind altering drugs with carefully hypnotic programming. However, the real and true dangers are well proven at affecting the unconscious mind by using deception, [repetition, sensory illusion, corrupted and subliminal iconography, desensitization, historical suppression/repression, theological and academic defiance in the face of archaeological and anthropological truths – and then], psychological manipulation. It is neither magical nor mystical, but a process of [population handling and control]. It uses the psychology of deceit to adversely affect the recipient groups in terms of their behavior."
"Here is a simplified example of how this is being implemented against [the individual psyches] of African Americans [and others]. Imagine a crew of people aboard their own massive ship being followed by another neighboring ship, that was constantly broadcasting derogatory messages to the first group. Messages like: their ship was lesser, smaller, not seaworthy and slowly sinking; or that their crew was incompetent, untrustworthy and planning a mutiny. With time, the group receiving the negative messages, being unable to refute or to confirm the derogatory messages of their deficiencies [at the necessary scale], grow weary and paranoid of the negative messages and eventually come to accept the negative assessments."
"The taunting, now unconsciously influences how the group perceives itself, subsequently causing them to become distrustful of itself, doubting, hating - and encouraging fighting among itself internally. The group may even become so besieged by deep feelings of inadequacy, that [some] jump ship and attempt to swim towards the taunting vessel, now believing it to be superior to their own ship, even if their own ship was in fact - better. The basis of this concept of mind manipulation is that the human being's most critical aspect [and rudder] is the [subconscious] mind."
"Here now, is how it works outside the individual plight of black peoples and the environments they must navigate. Fraudulent, derogatory stories about African Americans are secretly created [for example; national and international governmental agencies, PR Houses, conspirators, supremacists, interests groups, politicians to name a few - and then leaked to collaborators in the news media, which either knowingly or unknowingly, carry the stories as their own or others."
"Historically, troves of false information and negative depictions about African Americans and blacks worldwide, have been disseminated unrelentingly everywhere across all manner of news, sport and social media, sitcom and bigbox; deliberately perpetuated through news releases in magazine articles, radio, television, press releases, documentaries, even false census reports; [and even the messages of our rap artists as was rock music, are finely tuned and targeted to specific demographics].
"The weapon is [no longer] in how the message is carried then, but instead, that historically, it has been and continues to be carried - and how it perpetuates and frames myths of white racial, moral, and ethical superiority over the black population. These falsehoods have detrimentally affected black populations [worldwide]. [Hypothesizing] a goal of [social engineering], the treatment of African Americans, to destroy black unity and cohesion, is as legitimate - as the [current] failing history of the US itself."
"Logic dictates that, [if the success of] unifying cohesion among African Americans [and others], was responsible for the initial destabilization of white America’s previous system of institutionalized racism, [pre/post-civil rights], then destroying this unity would be an essential objective of any psychological manipulation program in the future. [The changing times of the post-industrial, early information and technological era] made it [possible] for the U.S. government to change its overtly racist methods toward a more subtle and socially acceptable approach; a sophisticated method of psychological warfare that covertly works from a subliminal framework - thus providing the U.S. government a more socially acceptable means of protecting the current racial hierarchy."
[Methods of covertly amplifying racism are much less public and obvious; they are hidden in the inter-generational cultural fabric of society, supported by false equivalencies and historical untruths, that have suppressed the target being discriminated against and that trigger the lineage of other groups to conspire against blacks and others, in their reach for America’s slice of the pie.]
"Surreptitious biased decisions, are often disguised or rationalized with an explanation that society is more willing to accept. These racial biases cause a variety of problems that work to empower the suppressors while diminishing the rights and powers of the oppressed. Covert racism often works subliminally, and often much of the discrimination is being done subconsciously (See Chester Pierce, "Offensive Mechanisms" in Floyd B. Barbour, Editor: The Black Seventies, Boston, Mass: Porter Sargent Publisher, 1970)[This was the only reference provided in this writing - all other references, I have added to substantiate the author's hypothesis]."
"All Americans have experienced the burden of this system of applied psychological conditioning, some more severely than others. It is experienced every time one reads a newspaper, watches the evening news, a movie or sitcom, listens to a radio report, enters a classroom or reads a biased textbook. Black people are very aware they are systemic victims of massive covert and overt racist schemes - however, and this is important, it is directly attributed to the intensification of internalized self-hatred, profound disunity, and a presently confused outlook, about cultural deficits, prevalent in black America;" [not the disorienting levers of influence, inherent in the matrix of public relations and social engineering being instituted against the American people generally, and Native, African, Latino/a and Caribbean Americans in particular].
"Groups preconditioned to see only the worst in themselves must exhibit some degree of negative psychological and sociological impact. To the detriment of many African Americans [and their self-perceptions], this psychosocial program has been extremely effective. It has successfully conditioned many African Americans - not all - to accept the dominance of white and white institutions over their lives [to compete across gender, class and fortunes], by misleading them to believe they are themselves, their own worst enemies. This creates feelings of internalized black self-contempt that pulverizes Black unity and halts [collective] Black upward mobility. While many African Americans have successfully navigated through the psychologically mortifying mine field and have gone on to lead successful, productive lives - for far too many - this immense devaluation [has been] inescapable.
Tragically, historically, over time, too many have begun to accept subconsciously, the painful negative portrayals of themselves. Many also become discouraged as they accept that the society is preconditioned to see the worst in them - that if they were ever to gain acceptance in the US [a society that for all structural intent and purpose, wishes to exploit them and see them fail] - if acceptance is to be won at all" – [it would remain anti-climatic and technically void].
"This in turn, manifests negative internalized psychological pain and distresses within African American communities that take many forms [no need to list here]. America’s psychosocial treatment of African Americans may be the most aggravating, if not the core factor, of the national phenomenon of black self-contempt, impeded unity and non-cohesion. Hence, the often fragile, consumerist and distorted individualistic psyches of many African Americans today. [This longitudinal conditioning world wide] is in fact so fundamentally detrimental to the black human condition and psyche, that it may even effect the extent to which many blacks realize their full human potential" [while genocide is committed against the African Disaspora worldwide].
"The mass propaganda program is at the root of profound feelings of internalized self-contempt now afflicting so many black Americans; and is at the heart of internalized feelings of superiority that many white’s possess." [I continually advocate the unraveling of the social construct that is the race matrix - cannot not be done in black isolation. While we have some economic and perhaps some artillery to fight; we have no where near the scale of resources to literally go to war with the vestiges of the Committee of 300. We might if the African Diaspora had the where-with-all to unite; but the psychological program has long been deployed; and as a consequence, our Diaspora is severely fractured. Lastly, while it seems many have determined reparations are the final solution to eradicate the historical discord and unevenness African American relations and the sham of American Democracy has been; America must first move past Trump - he is the agitator toward American destabilization and its fascist tendencies, operating at the behest of a higher order; please follow the links cited in this publishing].
"The mass propaganda program also fosters a national climate that is insensitive to the plight of black America. It does so by engendering a shift of victimization that charges the root problem of racism in America to be [caused by] African American behavior rather than white proclivities toward racism [Gingrich was masterful at this]. This produces increasingly prejudiced, distorted perceptions, and acrimonious beliefs about African Americans that make the nation and the entire world insensitive to their plight, [as previously noted], tranquilizes efforts and lessens pressure for social change on behalf of African Americans/others; and makes any serious criticism of white racism more defensible" [in ever moving news cycles and information overload].
"Further, the program creates a false justification for the legal system’s mistreatment of African Americans. Wherein they are disproportionately incarcerated, given stiffer sentences, and are [with the exception of Native Americans] more likely than other groups to be treated brutally, beaten, and fired upon by police officers while they are unarmed – many of these injustices now go ignored because the perception has become that it’s all [somehow] justified. When contempt of blacks is made, to appear to be justifiable, it is a most fierce and effective [subliminal] type of racism because witnesses, bystanders, and even world audiences will sit idly by, while allowing [the African Diaspora] to be brutally mistreated, disproportionately incarcerated and murdered, under the same perception - that it is somehow deserved."
[These beliefs also impact] attitudes that allow governmental policies, laws, and other legislative actions that always seem to ensure that African Americans will not advance. Its effects are manifested in ideas [algorithms, education, politics and targeted legislative policies, economic stratification, social and housing segregation, hiring and promotion practices, [framing of psychological matrices and issues, and minority access to a variety of [basic], social services, opportunities and the forceful, contemporary attacks limiting the right to vote].
"This concept of the U.S government using psychological warfare through the national media as a weapon to influence and control its black population is not at all ridiculous or new. The objective of the United States government has always been to maintain and defend its position of white dominance against its black and “other” populations and clearly has substantiated methods of covert mass psychological warfare that meets this need" [As the technological development of communications worldwide developed and moved in real time, social media particularly, became the perfect medium for expanding mass psychological operations].
"Furthermore, the U.S. Government has an extensive history of using the national media to psychologically manipulate and influence public opinion. [Propaganda] is indeed, a very common governmental practice. Today, what are often deemed as being credible news sources are often totally made up stories made to push an agenda or meet a government objective. Many journalists working for public relations firms are later hired by U.S. government departments to produce fake or altered news reports. The media manipulates in all manner of language and dissemination, in real time, through government, professional public relations (PR) firms, covert and overt media houses, to promote certain political outcomes, ideologies and governmental objectives."
"False reports are being presented as factual news by journalists, and are rebroadcast by news stations without revealing the segment is from a PR firm hired by the government, thus giving it the appearance of genuine news... The media’s immense ability to manipulate the masses should never be under estimated - nor is it ever overstated. [Such a salient point]. Mass manipulation through the media is a powerfully effective [social engineering] tool."
In conclusion and editorially, I am impressed with the author's insights that the psychological manipulation of African Americans has been so successfully accomplished, that it may be very difficult to reverse - though many are trying. The writer also provides an integrated understanding of the levers of influence that keep our country intentionally divided. The corporate manipulation and marketing of a chicken sandwich, for example, that tens of thousand of blacks stood in line for (in spite of the "sambo-ish" reference to blacks and chicken); the 'in your face' intent of awarding of Rush Limbaugh, a Presidential Medal of Honor, in deference to the integrity, honor and contributions to all previously recognized; the unbelievable ripples of a fractured African American community in the death of Kobe Bryant, and our ability demonstrate dignity in a collective way, without tearing our own apart; and even the acceptance of the utter shredding of the Constitution and proceedings of law, in the illegal acquittal of the President - with nary a peep of real outrage from investigative journalists... are all part and parcel, driven by the influence of mass propaganda, designed to destabilize our nation. Part of the conditioning is almost like Stockholm syndrome. The victims begin to feel that they deserve their endured mistreatment - and will resent being told they are not clearly, discriminating the latent influence of the massive scale of propaganda upon the nation's democratic interests.
